September is an exciting month for all of us at Arthur Murray Studios. “DANCING WITH THE STARS” begins on Monday September 24th at 8pm on Channel 13. The emergence of this program has introduced the WORLD OF BALLROOM DANCING to millions of viewers and to many of our new students. As a result, we have more incredible people to dance with and we have increased our staff members. We are pleased to formerly introduce OUR NEWEST AMLV STAFF MEMBER, Marriann Nelson. Marriann comes to us with a dance background and incidentally is the Mother of last season’s “Dancing With the Stars” Champion, Julianne Hough, who danced with Apolo Anton Ohno. Since the summer we have also introduced to our studios, Alejandra Covarrubias, and Jonathan Green. We are excited to have such a promising group of new staff members and we are looking forward to their involvement in the studio.
SHOWCASE EVENT “Dancing With the Movie Stars” and our SHOWCASE DINNER, DANCE AND PROFESSIONAL SHOW. Don’t miss this one on Saturday, September 22nd!!! This is our Student Showcase. We have over 100 Student Dance Routines for this Showcase! All of our instructors have been choreographing special routines for each student to showcase their individual talents. VICKI VENKA will be our visiting adjudicator for the Showcase. There will be awards for Top Categories such as Best Amateur Couple; Best Formation; Best Costume; Most Original Routine; 1st Place Male and Female in Newcomer, Associate Bronze, Bronze, Associate Silver, Silver & Above divisions. Top Instructor Awards are based only on the scores of their students. Teachers are not being judged by their own ability, but on the progress of their students. STUDENT SHOWCASE BEGINS 2PM-6PM, $10.00 per person, advanced purchase. DINNER, DANCE AND PROFESSIONAL SHOW BEGINS 6:30PM, $69.00 per person, advanced purchase. The event is open to the public, Seating is limited. Please contact our Administrative Assistants, Keli, Melissa or Laura for all ticket purchases and event details.
FINAL DANCE-OFF for our own "Dancing With the Las Vegas Stars”, Season 1, will be featured at the Showcase Event. The Competition has been running since August 3rd and it has been exciting for both Studios to host these events. It is a very close for all of the Dancers. Every week our Honorable Gold Bar, Gold and Silver Level Judges mark their scores based on four top categories. The popular vote is crutial to deciding the final outcome. We are down to our three final contestants. The winners will receive a trophy and tickets to the “Dancing With the Stars in Hollywood, California.
PRIVATE COACHING with VICKI VENKA and NICHOLAS KOSOVICH. Vicki Venka is a well renowned International Coach and Arthur Murray Competition Adjudicator. It is always a pleasure to have her in our Studios. We are very excited to introduce Nick Kosovich to our Studios. He is also an Arthur Murray International Coach and Competition Adjudicator. You may have seen him as the Professional Dance Partner of Vivica Fox on “Dancing With the Stars”, Season 3.
INTRODUCING ARGENTINE TANGO MILONGAS AND TANGO WORKSHOPS. Ven a Bailar el “Tango del Corazon” or shall we say “Come Dance the “Tango of the Heart”. Hugo Latorre and Miriam Gittelman are from Argentina. They have been hosting Argentine Tango Milongas (Dance parties) at our Durango studio on the third Saturday of every month. Their weekly Workshop is on Thursday evenings at 8:15pm at the Durango Studio. Tom and Tanya Smith will be hosting Milongas at the Maryland Parkway Studio on specified Saturday evenings at 8:15PM. Check the Calendar for dates. This is a great introduction to one of the most romantic dances. All events are $15.00 per person.
As the summer is ending we would like to once again acknowledge all of the Students and Instructors who participated in the July Arthur Murray UNIQUE DANCE-O-RAMA at the Hyatt Hotel in Irvine, California. We brought home the 2nd PLACE TROPHY in our Division of 7 Arthur Murray Schools. CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR LAS VEGAS DANCERS; Lisa Evans, Cynthia Kestler, Connie Saqueton, Lesley Pena and Instructors Greg Darrough, Trent McAffee and Justin McClendon. We would also like to acknowledge our dedicated RISING STAR PROFESSIONAL DANCE FINALISTS; Alison Smith & Justin McClendon; Valerie Green & Adam Stuckey. What a great example they are.
